The essential
— Bouquehault church
At its origin, the church comprised only the upper part of the building. Its walls were very thick to compensate for the absence of buttresses. Its construction dates back to at least the 16th century. Entry was through a single door, the location of which can still be seen in the south wall. This tall church has the particularity of having, above the choir, a refuge room accessed by a staircase embedded in the wall. The lower part of the structure was built later, still in the 16th century.
In the early 17th century, the church, which had been plundered and set ablaze by enemy troops, was in a state of extreme disrepair. Only a few walls remained, and the tower had collapsed. The reconstruction of the upper part began in 1626: the roof and vaults of the choir were redone, and the top of the tower was replaced by a wooden bell tower. The reconstruction of the lower church was completed in 1678-1679.
