gare de Caffiers

The essential

— Caffiers train station

The train station is located on the Nord railway line between Calais and Boulogne. ‘An order from the Prefect, dated July 31, 1862, directs that a special inquiry will be opened into the location of the stations proposed to be established in the municipalities of: 1 Wimille, 2 Marquise, 3 Caffiers.’
Construction of the line continued, nearing Caffiers in July 1863. Fares for travel on the line from Boulogne to Caffiers in 1867 were announced as follows: first class – 2.90 francs, second class – 2.20 francs, and third class – 1.60 francs.
Given the resources of the region, the station served at least two dimension stone quarries (of marble) during the 1880s-1890s.
