About

An exceptional site

The Bastion Royal is the only vestige of the town’s ramparts. Miraculously preserved in the public garden adjoining the town hall, it bears witness to the Renaissance, the technical progress made at the time and the importance of the city of Ardres in the face of the surrounding occupied lands.

The site has been classified as a historic monument, and is thus protected for its national interest.

Several guided tours are organized throughout the year by the Association Culturelle et Historique d’Ardres, particularly in summer and during the Heritage Days weekend. These tours are free for individuals.
For groups of more than 10 people, it is possible to make a specific request outside these dates, directly by e-mail to the association.

An exceptional historic site in terms of its state of preservation and the priceless testimony it represents, the Bastion Royal is an essential part of our region’s history.
